Due to the overwhelming response of the 1st session of the seminar on the Electoral System of the Legislative Assembly of Macau, UM held another session to provide information about clean election to more UM students at the beginning of this academic year on 30 August 2017. Three speakers from the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) were invited again, namely Mr. CHEONG Weng Chon, the Commissioner Against Corruption, Mr. LAM Chi Long, the Assistant Commissioner Against Corruption, and Mr. FONG Pak Ian, the Consultant. Over 300 students joined the seminar.
UM Dean of Students Mr. Paul PANG and the President of the University of Macau Students’ Union General Assembly Mr. LEONG Keng Lon welcomed the three speakers from CCAC and thanked them for presenting important information about clean election to UM students. They also shared their thoughts on clean election, adding that they believe this seminar will help to raise public awareness about clean election and reminds UM students of their civil obligations.
Mr. Cheong and Mr. Lam introduced related laws and responsibilities of citizens, behaviours that constitute to bribery, and other important matters that relate to clean election. They also presented some bribery cases to remind UM students about their vigilance and to report to CCAC when necessary. During the Q&A session, the speakers answered questions raised by the audience with real cases and related legal stipulations for clarification.
